Surf & Turf aka Filet and Lobster
Whoa Babes! Filet and Lobster you may be thinking. 1) What’s the occasion? 2) How much did that cost? 3) Why didn’t you just go out? Well to answer your questions…1) No occasion, just needed a steak and lobster night and we figured we might as well do it ourselves! 2) A Lot. 3) We have 3 little kids and we never go out unless it’s Runza. When we want a fancy meal, we pretty much have come to love making it ourselves at home!
I mean, we barely have time to get to Target much less travel across the country so why not splurge on an occasional fancy meal! Plus this is actually a pretty easy meal to put together and it doesn’t take hours to prepare which is so important around our home!!
Surf Time
Oh man, I really didn’t want to put this picture in here but I thought it was important to include it. Seafood-that’s totally me. I love halibut, salmon, swordfish, lobster rolls (who doesn’t?!) etc. etc. My husband on the other hand, was primarily the steak guy when we got married. But now nearly 6 years later (whoa! crazy!) he seems to have moved in a bit towards the middle. He is definitely still on the steak side, but now I can at least see him from my side of the field. 😉 Our last super fancy meal like this was the Filet Oscar which was such a hit as well if you want to check it out! Anyway back to my point, seeing the live lobsters right before we had to cook them was totally not a good feeling. I had this sick “pit in my stomach” kind of feeling and was looking forward to the filet more which totally doesn’t make sense because the same thing happened to the cow that was slaughtered but apparently it’s different when you are killing the animal yourself.

What is Edible
Just in case you are wondering where to start with the lobster after cooking it, here is a quick pic of what parts are edible on a lobster in my opinion. The meat from the lobster tails of course, and also the pinchers but discard the body and head of the lobsters. According to muah, the best meat is in the pinchers! Save that for last if you can still shove any more food down at that point. I was so full by that point that I ate one bite of lobster meat from the pincher…be smart. Be smart!
My husband and I usually have our annual lobster dinner since the trip to Bar Harbor, Maine in 2009 with my family. Pretty sure we paid less for the lobster in Maine but it’s more about reminiscing about how much fun that trip was and how we hope to go back in the next few years! Blueberries galore and lobsters every time you turn around- now that is my kind of living! The Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound was like OMG!! The views, the atmosphere, the trees, I want to experience it all again! ❤️
Turf Time
Okay, for realz there is not much to say here. So, pick up two prime cuts of beef and add a pinch of salt and pepper to each side. Sear it in some butter and garlic for a short 1-2 minutes a side and bake it for 6-8 minutes total. It’s quick, to the point, but dang this nice cut of meat means business. And don’t underestimate the size of filet. A little goes a long way. So good though, don’t ya think!
