A weekend away at the cabin is just what mom ordered! It was sleepless and yet relaxing, how is that?! We all had a blast and are ready for the next one already!
For the past couple years, we have had the luxury of enjoying time away from the everyday stuff at my parent’s cabin along the Platte River. Every time we go there, I totally get that good ‘ol outdoorsy vibe and pretty soon I find myself kickin back and relaxing on the hammock. When I get a real itch for a little exercise I will get up and walk right up to the river and take it all in and then of course make it back to the hammock.
That doesn’t last too long though because the kids love going on walks around there. I can never resist a good walk along the river.
Some of my Favorite Things about the Cabin:
- No cell service…well except for that one little place just outside of the cabin if you can get it just right. The only thing to bother using your phone there is for taking pics. I like it. Very much.
- It has a killer yard! I mean it’s amazing. The picture only shows about 1/2 of it, if that. My dad is known for his pristine yard work and the cabin is no different. When at the cabin I have a hard time deciding between hanging out inside because it’s so cozy vs outside where it’s just as cozy. That’s why I turn into a 5 year old there and am constantly going in and back out and in again. I just can’t help myself.
- The bunk room for the grandkids which is just about the most adorable room I have ever seen. I should have taken a pic for this post. I will have to let you all in on photos of the bunk room next time we go!
- The puzzle table. Usually our family puts together a rather large puzzle around Christmas but lately they have had puzzles going at the cabin and every time someone goes they get a little more done. I love puzzles and the puzzles I deal with on a daily basis have a max of 30 pieces so I literally woke up and grabbed coffee and sat there working on this puzzle like I had nothing else to do. It was wonderful! A puzzle table. You should have it. It can be at a cabin or heck even at home so you can work on the puzzle instead of doing laundry!
- Feeding Bigfoot. The kids have started a thing where they leave cheese for Bigfoot at night in the trees and in the morning check first thing whether Bigfoot came and ate the cheese. I don’t think it’s Bigfoot, but something’s eatin that cheese! Haha! I totally freaked because I forgot the grab the cheese in the morning but Bigfoot must have saved me because when they checked it was gone.
Days at the cabin are awesome. Nights. They are incredible. We are talking quality family movie time, enough s’mores to leave you feeling less than attractive, and all the outdoor sounds you can take. I love the nights there. That is until it’s actually time for me to hit the sack because for some reason that’s about the time my kids are waking me up left and right. No joke. I just take it all in as part of our little staycation. We are amateurs and this must be how it is right?!
You go on vacation to rest and relax but somehow come home more exhausted than ever! What’s the one and only thing your kids want to do when you get home? Go outside and play of course. But can’t we just go to bed kids, I mean it’s already four in the afternoon, aren’t you tired?!!!
I’m impressed by them every single day.
We’re not always classy at the cabin, but we are happy!!!
I will never get sick of these times with our children.
Amongst all the tired and exhausted days, we have moments like these that I will remember forever.
It’s so nice to get away for a day or two and just enjoy each other. Forget the hassle of all the things you think you should be doing and just focus on what matters most…your family and friends!
Happy July!!
