Celebrate Valentine’s Day with these adorable and delicious heart-shaped pancakes. You will love them because they are so delicious and the kids will have great fun eating them.
I have always been a waffle over pancake kinda gal. My waffle iron is one of our most-used small appliances and they always turn out great. Pancakes just never compared to the waffles IMO. Well times are a little different now because I will eat these pancakes any day of the week. These pancakes are just as good as any homemade waffle. So as it turns out I’m both a waffle and a pancake gal. Life is good these days.
The batter takes just minutes and I can not get over how cute the heart shapes are. It seems a little unnecessary but once you get the hang of using the molds you too will love them! I purchased the heart pancake molds from Target. They’re cheap so I would encourage you to get a couple of them so you don’t have to make one pancake at a time.
Tips for using the molds:
- Prior to pouring batter into the molds, brush olive or vegetable oil onto the griddle in the middle of the mold as well as on the inside of the mold to prevent batter from sticking to mold.
- If the molds are oiled, the pancake should slide out pretty easily by pulling up on the handle and wiggling it out.
- Clean the mold in between uses to ensure the pancakes look best.
- Fill the mold 1/3 full, which isn’t quite 1/4 cup of batter. You don’t want them too thick.
We absolutely love breakfast for dinner around our house so we have made these pancakes “a few” times already. The kids can’t get enough of them. And that makes this mama happy.
Reasons to love making pancakes:
- They are quick and easy to make! This is huge because I’m always looking for meals that take 30 minutes or less.
- They can be eaten a number of ways. The traditional butter and syrup is always delish, but I also love doing fresh fruit on top with a bit of powdered sugar. I used to eat pancakes with peanut butter (weird?! maybe but I liked it).
- They freeze great. I like to pop them in the toaster when ready to eat them and that always seems to get them just right.
- The heart molds are smaller in size which makes for a great size to feed kids or enjoy one yourself without eating a huge stack of pancakes.
Valentine’s Day is such a fun holiday to celebrate. My husband and I have made it tradition to cook a meal at home with the kids that day rather than go out. For that reason, I love adding a little fun into the meal and these pancakes will definitely be whipped up for breakfast next week!
What’s your go-to, waffles or pancakes?? I think you should give these Valentine’s Day pancakes a try! They are worth the extra bit of work!
Favorite Valentine's Day Pancakes
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1-2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat griddle to medium high heat or 375℉.
- Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl with wire whisk. Add egg, milk, and melted butter and stir until ingredients are just incorporated, batter will have small lumps and that is okay.
- To test griddle, sprinkle a drop of water onto griddle and if it sizzles then the griddle is ready. Otherwise let it continue to preheat more. Place pancake mold on griddle and brush olive oil on inside of mold and on griddle in middle of pancake mold.
- Pour batter to fill molds 1/3 full. Allow to cook for 2-3 minutes, until you see bubbles start to form on top of pancake and bottom is golden brown. When ready to flip, pull up on pancake mold handle and give it a shake until pancake wiggles out. Be sure bottom of pancakes are golden brown which allows them to cook enough to hold together when flipping. Then flip using a pancake turner and cook another 2-3 minutes. Repeat for remaining batter.
- Top with powdered sugar, a bit of butter and syrup. Fresh berries + powdered sugar is a great way to enjoy pancakes too!
