Plain yogurt made right in the Instant Pot will win you over at the first bite! It’s delicious and easy to make, just takes some time.
Yogurt, yum!! However how does everyone feel about plain yogurt?? Bitter, weird after taste, ya I feel you so that’s why we are going to make our own and get rid of all of that and just have some really good tasting yogurt that we can now add some flavor!
Um, as someone that eats yogurt on a regular basis I can honestly say this yogurt is so fabulous and it doesn’t need a bunch of added sugar like the fruity flavors along the shelves at the store. I have added 3 simple ways to serve this yogurt that really makes it taste extra delicious.
This yogurt is strained with cheesecloth to separate the whey and so this recipe is for greek yogurt making it thicker and creamier than regular yogurt. It’s…I have to say it again..it’s 100% fantastic!!
TBH store-bought plain yogurt gets sweetened with Splenda but I don’t even need it with this homemade yogurt and that makes me smile.
My first favorite way to serve this yogurt is with a sprinkle of pomegranate arils over the top! Just YUM!!
Second favorite way to serve it is with crushed walnuts and chopped dark chocolate. A little bit of sweet and a little salty…yes please!
And…the third way I like to serve it involves a few slices of banana, a sprinkle or two of cinnamon and a nice ‘ol drizzle of honey.
They are all delicious and it is now up to you which you will prefer. Or you could just top it with some homemade granola which is always great.
Favorite Homemade Plain Yogurt (Instant Pot) + 3 Ways to Serve It
Ingredients
- 1 gallon milk 2%
- 3 tbsp nonfat plain yogurt with active cultures
Instructions
- Pour gallon of milk into the inner pot of your Instant Pot. Close lid and lock in place. Pressure valve can be set to either venting or sealing.
- Press the Yogurt button repeatedly until the instant pot says boil. Allow milk to boil for 1 hour at which time the instant pot should beep and state "yogt." Measure the temperature and it should be at least 180℉ up to 200℉. If it is not, press the saute button until it reaches 180℉.
- Meanwhile, make an ice bath in the sink and then place the inner pot into the ice bath until it reaches 110℉. This takes about 15-20minutes. With a spoon, remove the "skin" that forms on the top. Add the 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt and whisk in to the milk.
- Place the inner pot back in to the Instant Pot, press the yogurt button again and set time to 7 hours.
- When the time is up, place cheesecloth over a strainer and set over the top of a large bowl. Let liquid be drained out in the fridge overnight to separate the whey from the yogurt.
- Whisk the yogurt until creamy. Place greek yogurt in sealable container and store in the fridge up to two weeks.
- Serve with the following toppings 1) pomegranate arils 2) crushed walnuts and dark chocolate 3) banana slices and sprinkle of cinnamon and drizzle of honey. Enjoy!!
