Healthy + tasty homemade granola that tastes great for breakfast, snack, or to top off yogurt for a dessert!
Granola is what I like to call a “staple” at our house. I almost always have some on hand for a snack by itself or to add some crunch to some greek yogurt. It’s the cherry on top!
I will buy a bag of granola on occasion but I really enjoy making it homemade and for a couple of reasons:
- It is quick + simple= no brainer…I must make this!
- It makes a lot more than the bag I purchase from the store often lasting me a couple weeks.
- I love switching up the flavors but keeping the wet to dry proportions the same to create a whole new granola recipe!
Honestly, this granola makes me think about my sister and how much she loves my homemade cinnamon pecan granola. I can’t wait to surprise her with this yummy granola too! She’s going to love it!
Side note: Our family went to the Denver Supercross event this past weekend and wow did we have an absolute blast. All you non-supercross fans I apologize for the mumbo jumbo that means nothing to you. I was in your shoes a few short years ago.
The difference? When your husband watches it every day because he has NBC Sports Gold you might start to get into it which is exactly what happened. I know more about supercross than I ever thought possible and I’m not complaining. Especially since Eli Tomac (ya, I have a favorite rider, what’d ya expect?) won the 450 main event, which I already knew he would. I am gonna take a chance and say it’s kinda like how I feel after a Husker win. Totally awesome!
Alright, back to this wonderful granola. So if it’s not already obvious the yogurt + granola combo is one of my favs especially for a post-workout snack. It satisfies me and is totally delicious. Oh, and I just don’t ever get tired of it. I think part of that is because I switch up the ingredients so often to get a completely different flavor of granola.
This recipe takes about 5-10 minutes to prep and 40 minutes to bake. You might say 40 minutes?!! However that 40 minutes of baking time is the best time of the day because your kitchen smells like heaven baked bliss for the next few hours.
Tip–> don’t stir the granola while it’s baking if you want the big clusters. I often break it down pretty small but it’s kind of fun having some big clusters of granola stored away to grab a quick snack if needed!
Easy + Homemade Honey Almond Granola
Ingredients
- 3 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 cup sliced almonds
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp flax seed
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup coconut oil melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg white
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300℉. Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine oats, almonds, brown sugar, flax seed, chia seeds, and salt. Stir and set aside.
- In medium bowl, combine honey, melted coconut oil, vanilla, and egg white. Whisk ingredients until smooth.
- Pour wet ingredients over dry ingredients and mix with spatula until just moistened. Spread granola mixture onto baking sheet and even it out into a thin layer with rubber spatula.
- Bake at 300℉ for 40 minutes or until golden brown around the edges making sure not to stir granola while it is baking. This would prevent large clusters from forming. Let granola cool completely and then break clusters apart.
- Store in airtight container up to 1 week.
