Quick & Easy Stromboli- pizza dough rolled up and stuffed with prosciutto, ham, red pepper, onion, and cheese. This is great as an appetizer, main dish, or party food! So unbelievably tasty and it bakes in 20 minutes!
A new week brings a new food obsession and this week it is this crazy delicious stromboli! Stromboli is pretty much pizza in a different form. And served like this means I get to dunk these cute little stromboli “sandwiches” into pizza sauce! YUM! Is it an appetizer or main dish? I say both! These can also be made into a kid-friendly version depending on the mix of ingredients chosen.
The process for making stromboli is pretty straightforward. (here is the short version) 👉 1. Roll out your pizza dough into a rectangle 2. Spread out your sauce, meats, cheese, and veggies on a little more than half of your dough making sure to leave a border around the edge. 3. Roll the short sides in just a bit and then roll the entire dough up lengthwise. 4. Brush the top with egg wash and make slits in the dough about every 1 1/2 inches to let steam escape. 5. Bake this delicious pizza roll thing for 15-20 minutes.
This would be a fun recipe to change up every now and then with all kinds of meat, veggie, and cheese options. Think pizza 🍕 what do you like on your pizza? Pepperoni, sausage, salami, hamburger or skip out on the meat completely and go meatless if your prefer. The veggie part would be fun to mix up- maybe try a spinach and artichoke version. I will definitely have to try that in the future! I actually ended up using Swiss cheese because that is what I had in the fridge, and it tasted amazing!
The fun part about being a food blogger is the amount of leftovers that somehow seem to take over our fridge! I really enjoy having some options for lunch now instead of the usual boring lunch. I am just realizing I am going to have to come up with a better term than leftovers so my husband gets a little more excited about the idea. According to the thesaurus, I could go with any of the following: food surplus, extras, spares! I think I like spares! I mean a spare tire saves your ass and that is what my food will do the next day for me! We all like an occasional break when it comes to making supper. The solution? Grab the spares in the fridge and save your ass! Goodbye leftovers, helllo 👋 spares! But, good luck having any spare stromboli left because it didn’t last long at our house!

Quick & Easy Stromboli
Ingredients
- 1 package refrigerated pizza dough or homemade pizza dough
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion diced
- 1 red pepper cored, seeded, and diced
- 4 button mushrooms coarsely chopped
- 3 ounces prosciutto about 7-8 slices
- 2-3 slices ham
- 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese I used grated Swiss and it tasted great too
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce plus more for dipping
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 ℉.
- Heat olive oil in a large pan. Add onion, pepper, and mushrooms and sauté for about 5 minutes or until soft. Set aside.
- Roll out pizza dough into large rectangle, roughly 10x12. Spread sauce on 2/3 of the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border around side with sauce. You should have approximately three inches of plain dough on side with no sauce. Top the sauce with prosciutto, ham, and grated cheese. Top cheese with the sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Substitute veggies based on your preferences!
- Brush the side of plain dough with the beaten egg. Roll in the shorter sides 1 1/2 inches and brush with egg. Then roll up your filled dough lengthwise starting with the side that has the toppings on it. Make sure the seamside is down.
- Brush the entire top of the dough with egg. Make slits in the top of dough about every 1 1/2 inches.
- Bake at 425℉ for 15-20 minutes. Serve with additional pizza sauce if desired.
- Optional: top with more cheese and dried/fresh parsley.
